Gordon Cheung @ Galerie ADLER, Frankfurt am Main
Wilderness of Mirrors
Solo show, September 5 - October 18, 2008
extended until November 22, 2008
Cheung’s paintings depict sites at once generalized and idiosyncratic. Their familiarity stems from his ability to combine numerous references into a single image, wherein space expands and contracts as if on the verge of collapse and time seems to reach toward the future while remaining firmly rooted in the past.

New Leipzig School @ cobra museum, Amstelveen
Group show,
October 4, 2008 - January 11, 2009

The Cobra Museum of Modern Art is the first Dutch museum to present a major retrospective of one of the most sensational art groups of this time - the New Leipzig School. The foundation was laid by artists who studied at the Leipzig Academy during the GDR era, where they received a thorough grounding in traditional painting techniques. In their own work they explored the outermost boundaries of the system imposed on them. From the traditional realistic painting style of their teachers, the younger generation developed a new artistic vocabulary which at present is causing an international sensation. Their work is characterised by a high degree of craftsmanship and at the same time it fits in perfectly with developments in contemporary art. The New Leipzig School has a tradition in photography as well as in painting.

Tilo Baumgärtel, Christian Brandl, Peter Busch, Tim Eitel, Sebastian Gögel, Henriette Grahnert, Matthias Hoch, Martin Kobe, Uwe Kowski, Tobias Lehner, Maix Mayer, Ulf Puder, Neo Rauch, Ricarda Roggan, Christoph Ruckhäberle, David Schnell, Annette Schröter, Erasmus Schröter, Matthias Weischer
