Cheung’s paintings depict sites at once generalized and
idiosyncratic. Their familiarity stems from his ability to combine
numerous references into a single image, wherein space expands and
contracts as if on the verge of collapse and time seems to reach
toward the future while remaining firmly rooted in the past.

On view in the Hirshhorn's lower-level galleries are a number of
important recent acquisitions, including a selection of works
acquired through the Contemporary Acquisitions Council (CAC), a
membership group that brings works by emerging artists into the
museum's collection. During its inaugural year, the group helped the
museum acquire 22 new works in a range of media by artists from DC,
London, Dublin, New York City, Toronto, Mexico City and elsewhere.

This exhibition includes many new works of photography and video art
by Iceland’s most outstanding artists, building on their disparate
ideas about nature as a phenomenon. The exhibition ranges from early
twentieth-century photographs to recent installations by young and
noted Icelandic artists. Curated by Æsa Sigurjónsdóttir. This
exhibition was first mounted at the Bozar Centre for Fine Arts in
Brussels as part of the 2008 Iceland on the Edge festival. The
exhibition is part of the program of the Reykjavik Arts Festival.
The National Bank of Iceland is the main sponsor of this exhibition.

Kinder in der Schweizer Kunst vom 18. Jahrhundert bis zur Gegenwart
Die Ausstellung thematisiert die idyllischen und abgründigen Seiten
des Kindes in der Schweizer Kunst vom ausgehenden 18. Jahrhundert
bis zur Gegenwart.
Über die Epochen hinweg lassen sich Kinderbilder wie Sittengemälde
ihrer Zeit lesen. Jenseits von heiterem Kinderglück und Mutterliebe
stellen sich Fragen nach Erziehung und Missbrauch, Sexualität und
moralischem Wandel, nach Einsamkeit, Krankheit und Tod.
Die Hängung folgt keinem chronologischen, sondern einem thematischen
Konzept, so dass die Werke über die Jahrhunderte hinweg in einen
spannungsvollen Dialog treten und unser häufig klischiertes Bild
einer heilen Kinderwelt relativieren.
Es erscheint eine umfangreiche Begleitpublikation.
