"Ene-Liis Semper's videos seem to be bearing the traumatic traces of paradise of purity and innocence, of loosing the womb feeling and eternal seeking. She grounds her revulsion of culture in violent self-portraits that reach the point of self-sacrifice. Semper's transgressive gestures refer to the artist's wish to discard the tight shackles of culture and the weight of her body, and to return to the pre-language and role state. The magic of Semper's work, so difficult to analyse and even describe, lies in the very fact that they affect the viewers also on the body level."
